General Information

Stages of Completion
STAGE 1:
"SEMI-FINISHED": This term refers to a gunstock that is completely shaped and machine inletted, but has not yet been fitted to a gun. The term "Inletting" refers to the inside cuts in the stock for the gun to fit into. Gunstock prices shown in the price brackets are for stocks in the semi-finished stage of completion.
STAGE 2:
"Pre-Fit": This term refers to a stock that has been carefully hand-fitted to a shop rifle; i.e. Pre-fitted before it goes to the customer.
STAGE 3:
"Hand-Fitted and Shaped": Refers to a custom built stock that has been hand fitted to the gun and has been carefully trimmed and contoured on the outside ready for final sanding. This would be a stock that is closer to completion than a Pre-Fit, especially with regards to the outside shaping.
STAGE 4:
"Completely Finished and Checkered": Refers to stocks that are custom built to full completion.

Sending Your Gun To Us
If you want a custom stock that is hand fitted and shaped or completely finished and checkered it will be necessary to send us your gun for fitting purposes.

THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS AGAINST SENDING A GUN THROUGH THE MAIL FOR REPAIR OR RESTOCKING ( NO TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP IS INVOLVED ).

When shipping a bolt-action rifle, it is best to remove the bolt, wrap it, and tape it to the gun. Ship it to "Great American" and avoid mentioning, "Gun" or "Firearm" anywhere on the outside of the box. Please write up a description of the gun and the stock work you would like us to do. The address is 3420 Industrial Dr., Yuba City 95993-9222. Although you can ship a gun in any kind of sturdy box, we recommend that you ship it in a hard case. If you don't have, or can't find a hard case, we will furnish one you can keep for $25 postpaid. Outside the USA can be more difficult. Contact us regarding international shipping problems.

Machining Of Stock wood Furnished By The Customer
The charge to have your rifle blank machined into the model and style of your choice is $110.00. The charge is the same for machining a butt stock and forearm for most 2-piece rifles and shotguns. For radical styles and features that vary greatly from our patterns it may be necessary to charge a special machining fee and/or pattern set-up charge of up to $60. Such charges are determined on an individual order basis- we will provide price quotes on any special order request.

Ordering Instructions
The easiest way to place an order (or check on availability) is to call us on the "Gunstock Hotline" 1-800-784-GUNS(4867). We can quickly obtain all the information we need about your particular gun to make certain that you get the correct stock. It is best to have the gun in hand when ordering. We will need to know the make, model, and gauge/caliber of the gun. For rifles we will need to know if you have the original issue barrel on the gun, or a custom barrel. Also if it has a long or short action, ADL or BDL, etc. We need a careful description of the stock you are ordering... grade of wood, stage of completion, and any extras or accessories you want included. We can prepare an order and give you an exact quotation. You can pay by credit card, check, or money order. Sorry, no C.O.D.'s. Shipping charges do apply.
